As
the name suggest, Bekal beach curves around an imposing fort, which holds
the crashing sea waves in a cyclical and hypnotic rhythm. The tranquil
beach, with its scurrying crabs and seashells defines its splendor in the
soothing sun-rays. Unlike the other beaches in Kerala, it is an enclosure,
where visitors can enjoy both the sunrise and the sunset. The 2 km long Bekal beach is a perfect place for individual, who knows nothing then swimming and sightseeing. Swimmers can splash water but it is advised to avoid the curve of the beach as the current may sweep them away. There are plies of granite stones on the shallow area, which makes a good sitting place. Visitors can sit over here and enjoy the changing color and waves of the sea.
The nearby Bekal Aqua Park is a must visit center. It offer some rides like paddle boats, water cycle, Horse Cart, Camel ride etc. Sightseers can also visit the 300-year-old Bekal Fort, which is located 130 ft above the sea level. The fort complex includes a tank with flight of steps, wide steps leading to an Observation tower. The tower offers the great view of an ancient Anjaneya Temple, which now-a-days has been renovated as mosque and the sea fort.
Beach lovers on Bekal beach may not find beach shacks, but can think of to tantalize their taste bud with the excellent sea-food. Mutton dishes served as Malabari mutton biryani is the specialty of non-vegetarian restaurants. Kerala Tourism Department Corporation restaurant, set up at the beach offers tea, coffee, cold drinks and packed snacks. They also serve lunch as per the advance order by the visitor. Keralite food can be relished at Hotel Malanadu and Elite Tourist Home, situated at Kanhangad. Besides, lip smacking vegetarian foods are offered at K-Tees International Restaurant, located close to the beach.
Kappil Beach
The secluded Kappil Beach is loacted 6 kms to the north of Bekal. The long stretch is wide and clean enough for swimming and beach walking. The beach has the massive rock, the Kodi Cliff, which act as a resting place for the visitors.
Hosdurg Beach
Located 12 kms south of Bekal is the Hosdurg beach. It is home to the many marvelous forts in Kasargode District. The Hosdurg Fort built by the Ikkeri Nayaks in mid-16th century draws the closest attention of the visitors.

How to reach Bekal Beach
By Air:
Bajpe Airport situated 64 km away in Mangalore is the nearest railhead. It is connected to Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai by regular flights. Visitors, on reaching the aerodrome can hire available pre-paid taxis and reach the Bekal beach
By Rail:
The nearest railhead is at Kasargode, some 19 kms away. The train station is connected to Kozhikode by the Mangalore Mail and Parashuram
By Road:
Bekal is connected to Mangalore, Kannur, Kozhikode and Mumbai by NH17. KRTC Buses frequently operates from one place to another.
